Ads of the day: Irish Rugby and Honest Finding Dory

I have to say I was very impressed with Ireland’s video bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup, released yesterday. The copy is evocative, emotional and beautifully written; hitting that sweet spot between stereotypical “diddly-idle-deedle-dee” Ireland and the image of modern Ireland as a centre of connectivity, a business hub at the forefront of technology that has been carefully developed over the last number of years. The voiceover is complemented by a wonderful montage of images and footage that would stir up patriotism in the stoniest of hearts. Also hey, we all know it - Liam Neeson could narrate the instructions for laxative medication and still make it sound sexy and compelling.
My second pick for ad of the day is a bit of a cheat because it’s a fake ad; Screen Junkies’ latest Honest Trailer for Finding Dory.
What you gonna do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Screen Junkies have done it again and articulated exactly what I was thinking but wasn’t able to express post cinema trip a few months back – probably because I was so busy trying to process all of the loud noises and conveniently placed water scenes.
They really hit the nail on the head with “Damn you Pixar, even your B material makes me cry!” as I distinctly remember really enjoying myself during the film and my mind only really started to pick holes in it the next day after it had all sunk in.
